Die Heilige Ente (The Sacred Duck) was Gál's most successful opera, performed extensively before the banning of Gál's works by the Nazis in 1933. This revival in 2020 follows the widely acclaimed performances and subsequent recording of Das Lied der Nacht in Osnabruck in 2017.

Theater Osnabrück, Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany
Last performed in 1930, and banned by Hitler along with all Gál’s music, Das Lied Der Nacht is a powerful romantic drama, set in 12th century Palermo. It shows Gál at the height of his musical power as an operatic composer. Premièred in Breslau in 1926, it was hailed as “one of the most powerful operatic experiences ever!”

Zittau's Europera Youth Ochestra performed Gál's Burlesque (op. 42b) from his opera Die beiden Klaas, together with works by Bizet, Martinů and Dvořák. Zittau is a 'three-state area', situated near the borders of Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland, and Europera is a tri-national youth orchestra which performs works by ostracised composers such as Gál and Martinů. Therewas also an exhibition relating to Hans Gál, provided by the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Rostock.
