Vue d’ensemble

Le Divertimento pour instruments à vent, op. 22, fut composé en 1924 sur commande du festival de musique contemporaine de Kiel de 1925, organisé par l’Allgemeiner Deutscher Musikverein, dont Gál fit par la suite partie du comité aux côtés d’Alban Berg et d’Ernst Toch. Gál écrivit à son sujet :
« C’est un divertimento au sens originel du terme : une musique de plein air de caractère sérénade, cinq mouvements d’humeurs contrastées, lyriques et burlesques, aux formes concises et à la texture serrée de la musique de chambre. »
